"Potato's in the Paddy Wagon"

"One night mama went to fetch herself a sweet potato fell down the cellar stairs,
Stork dropped in while she was on the floor, so my sister was born down there.
Daddy said this one will be nothing but a misery, never will be worth a damn..
But mama just loved her little sweet potato baby, with a face like a parboiled yam."

  1. Well they certainly don't write songs like that anymore.....and thank God for it!

  2. That soundtrack CD from "A Mighty Wind" actually works as an enjoyable album of the styles of the "folk scare" years. Though a tolerance for cheesiness is required, of course. (Just like the real thing.) Still, Mitch & Mickey's "When You're Next to Me" is one of my favorite songs of the last decade.

  3. I'm with you on that, Dave. I love cheesiness (in moderation). And "Kiss at the End of the Rainbow" should've won that year for Best Original Song but instead it was that insipid Lord of the Rings song.

  4. I was delighted to see the brilliant songwriter Michael McKean on Sesame Street recently. He was playing a heavy metal character called "Vergil Von Vivaldi".
